Understanding the challenges and current state of your infrastructure can be the first major issue to overcome. With this information a coherent strategy can be defined to improve and secure your systems. 1 - Map out structure Capture information on network infrastructure, end points, applications, data paths and users to understand teh flow of traffic in all directions, both internal to internal and internal to external and vice versa Document and create network schematic and application/user matrix 2 - Baseline Performance Measure network performance in its current state, taking samples in different areas and at different times to get a clear baseline of current status. 3 - Test resilience Carry out stress tests on the existing network in a number of different possible scenarios to understand how the network performs and where the gaps in resilience exist 4 - Fingerprint security state and risks Using and complementing the information gathered in the initial mapping out, identify areas of security concerns and categorise according to riskSECURING
Your network and the data that passes over it contains your commercial confidential information, so it is vital is it as well protected as possible. Once secured continual monitoring ensures it stays secure in the future 1 - Define security plan Using the information from the Security Investigation create a security improvement plan based on applying layered security solutions and/or improvements to existing infrastructure. Plan will prioritise biggest risks/gains to achieve quick wins 2 - Implement security improvements In a phased approach implement security improvements and hardware/software solutions as per the security plan. 3 - Test and enhance Test security improvements to ensure meeting of the defined aims. Make adjustments and further enhancements to ensure security is improved as required. 4 - Continually monitor Implement monitoring solutions to ensure continual security compliance and allow for pro-active re-mediation
